Europol Reports 12,000 Arrests in Global Child Exploitation Operation

Guardii Analysis

Europol announced on 20 October 2026 that a coordinated international operation involving law enforcement agencies in 58 countries resulted in more than 12,000 arrests and the safeguarding of 8,500 children over a six-month period, targeting online child sexual exploitation networks operating across encrypted messaging platforms, peer-to-peer file-sharing services and gaming environments. The operation, named Operation BlackGuard, identified offenders who used cryptocurrency payments, anonymising networks and AI-generated imagery to evade detection, with Europol noting that the scale of the network and the volume of material in circulation required collaboration between technology providers and law enforcement to map connections and identify real-world victims.

Large-scale enforcement operations depend on the ability to detect abusive contact at the earliest point in the offender lifecycle, before imagery is produced or a child is physically harmed. Guardii, backed by Startmate and a Meta Business Partner, deploys real-time detection modules for anti-grooming, anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM including AI-generated material across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms, surfacing harmful patterns in private-message conversations to parents, schools and authorities and enabling rapid escalation to law enforcement where a child is at imminent risk.
