eSafety Commissioner Secures Court-Enforceable Undertaking from Roblox

Australia's eSafety Commissioner secured a court-enforceable undertaking from Roblox on 19 to 20 August 2026 after testing revealed adults could still contact children under 16 without parental consent and children's profiles remained visible platform-wide, despite a 2025 commitment from Roblox, a February 2026 notice of intent, and an April 2026 confirmation of interim improvements. The undertaking requires Roblox to restrict adult-to-child contact, set children's accounts to private by default, improve complaint reporting, and submit to an independent third-party audit of safety controls, including age-estimation technology, within three months. Breach would permit eSafety to apply to the Federal Court for compliance orders.

Platform commitments to restrict contact do not eliminate the risk that predatory adults will find children; they displace it to environments the platform cannot see.
