ATP Blocks 234,000 Abusive Comments in Online Safety Initiative

Guardii Analysis

The Association of Tennis Professionals reported in October 2026 that its safe sport initiative, launched in 2024 in collaboration with Tennis Data Innovations, Sportradar, Social Protect, and Arwen AI, has prevented more than 234,000 abusive messages from reaching professional tennis players and fans. The AI moderation program intercepts hostile comments before they arrive in the targets' inboxes, representing a significant deployment of automated content filtering to protect athletes from online harassment on social media.

Guardii's athlete-abuse detection module operates on a fundamentally different architecture. Where the ATP program filters incoming messages for abuse keywords and patterns, Guardii analyzes the shape, escalation and coercive structure of entire conversation threads across platforms including Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and others, identifying sustained targeting or coordinated pile-ons that individual message filters may miss. This conversation-level analysis surfaces patterns of orchestrated harassment, threat escalation and identity-based attacks before they reach the athlete, while enabling rapid escalation to sporting bodies or law enforcement when the threat profile warrants intervention, a design that addresses both the immediate and systemic dimensions of online abuse directed at athletes.
