UK Online Safety Act enforcement begins with child protection focus

Ofcom commenced formal enforcement of the UK Online Safety Act, with initial compliance notices issued to major platforms requiring them to demonstrate measures protecting children from grooming, abuse and harmful content. The regulator outlined risk-assessment and moderation obligations for user-to-user services, warning that failure to implement effective child-safety systems could result in fines up to ten percent of global revenue. Ofcom emphasized that platforms must deploy proactive detection rather than relying solely on user reporting.
