Meta disclosed recent news reports about Instagram advertisements in India that violated child exploitation policies, confirming enforcement systems had already identified and disabled several violating ads and accounts before external reporting, with subsequent investigation leading to removal of further ads, account disablement and blocking of URLs linked to policy-violating content. Globally in the previous year, Meta automatically removed more than 4 million suspicious accounts from Facebook and Instagram and 36 million pieces of content for child exploitation, using advanced AI detection tools to identify suspicious off-platform links in coordination with other signals indicating child exploitative activity. Meta publishes quarterly transparency reports covering child nudity and sexual exploitation, including data on volume of violating content actioned, proactive detection rates, grievances received, and orders from India's Grievance Appellate Committee, and has been experimenting with more advanced AI systems covering languages spoken by 98 per cent of people online, far beyond previous coverage of around 80 languages.
Platform-level content moderation—however sophisticated—operates retrospectively, removing abuse material after it has already been uploaded, viewed, shared or monetised, and after the child has already been contacted, groomed or exploited. Guardii's model is fundamentally different: as a Meta Business Partner with API-level access to Instagram direct messages, Guardii monitors the child's inbox in real time, applying anti-grooming, anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM detection to every incoming message before it reaches the target. Where Meta's systems catch violating ads or accounts in aggregate, Guardii stops the hostile message at the individual child's device, surfaces the threat to the parent or school safeguarding officer before the child responds, and—where the contact meets the threshold for law-enforcement referral—escalates immediately to the appropriate authority, intervening at the point of contact rather than days or weeks downstream.
