NCMEC Releases REPORT Act Guidelines for Platforms to Detect Child Sex Trafficking and Online Enticement
Guardii Analysis
NCMEC released guidelines in October 2024 to help online platforms comply with the REPORT Act, enacted in May 2024, which for the first time requires U.S.
-based platforms to report child sex trafficking and online enticement to the CyberTipline in addition to child sexual abuse material. The guidance, developed from millions of historical reports and informed by adult survivors with lived experience of child sexual exploitation, provides platforms with indicators to recognize grooming, enticement and the active sale of children for sex, crimes that NCMEC notes have historically been underreported by industry despite occurring daily.
