Mississippi law enforcement agencies arrested 69 individuals during a two-week statewide operation targeting child exploitation and sex offender registry violations. The operation, which involved Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Mississippi Attorney General's Office, and local police departments, stopped at least one active sextortion case after responding to a cyber tip before the child's parents were aware of the threat. Attorney General Lynn Fitch referenced the 2022 death of Starkville teenager Walker Montgomery, who died by suicide after being targeted in a sextortion scheme, emphasizing that state authorities cannot allow another child to lose their life to such abuse.
