Keeping children safe against discrimination, bullying and harassment

Tasmania's Department for Education, Children and Young People announced on 7 August 2026 its commitment to implementing the National Framework for Addressing Bullying in Australian Schools, with alignment work to be completed by the nationally agreed timeline of Term 1 2027. The Student Behaviour Management Policy establishes minimum standards for preventing and responding to bullying across all Tasmanian government schools, adopting the national definition of bullying and setting clear expectations for supporting students impacted by bullying. The policy ensures all schools apply the same foundation standards, though individual schools may incorporate different programs or measures tailored to local context.

A jurisdiction-wide minimum standard for responding to bullying establishes institutional consistency but does not solve the operational problem that most cyberbullying occurs in spaces schools cannot see: direct messages, private group chats and cross-platform conversations where traditional monitoring has no visibility. Targeted detection closes that gap.
