International operation dismantles sextortion network targeting thousands of minors across 15 countries

Guardii Analysis

Europol announced on October 25, 2026, the results of a coordinated law enforcement operation across 15 countries that led to the arrest of 42 individuals and the identification of more than 3,800 child victims of an organized sextortion network. The operation, which involved agencies from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and nine European nations, targeted a criminal network that used fake social media profiles on Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and Discord to coerce minors into producing explicit images, then extorted victims for payments averaging 300 to 500 euros. Europol reported that the network operated a sophisticated infrastructure including call centers, shared victim databases, and coordinated scripts to manipulate children, and that investigators seized cryptocurrency wallets containing approximately 2.1 million euros in proceeds from sextortion.

The multi-jurisdictional coordination Europol describes reflects the operational reality that sextortion networks move faster than retrospective investigation can follow. Guardii's approach intercepts the threat at the point of first contact: its anti-sextortion detection module monitors direct messages in real time across the platforms the operation identified, recognizing the characteristic coercion patterns, rapid escalation from initial contact to image solicitation, and extortion demands as they occur, and blocking or flagging hostile accounts before a child sends compromising material. By surfacing a child in crisis to a parent, school safeguarding lead or law enforcement immediately, rather than weeks or months later during a forensic investigation, the system enables intervention while the conversation is still active, and provides authorities with the context and account identifiers needed to pursue coordinated enforcement action against organized networks.
