Idaho man who used AI to turn teen's social media pictures into CSAM gets decade in prison

Guardii Analysis

Adam Pettibone, 39, was sentenced to a decade in prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge of Producing Sexually Exploitative Material of a Child. Authorities said Pettibone took photographs of a teenager from Facebook and used artificial intelligence software to turn them into exploitative videos. Police discovered the material in May after a traffic stop in Greenleaf, during which officers also found extensive handwritten material describing his desire to violently sexually abuse young children and infants. The victim testified in court, stating that looking at herself made her feel disgusted not because she did anything wrong, but because someone else chose to violate her.

This sentencing establishes meaningful criminal consequence for AI-enabled image manipulation targeting children and underscores the permanence of digital harm. The anti-CSAM and anti-grooming detection modules in Guardii's platform could have intercepted the trust-building or solicitation behaviour that precedes such material collection. Operating as a Meta Business Partner with real-time detection across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other messaging platforms, Guardii surfaces sustained targeting, escalation and coercion patterns before an offender harvests social-media images or manipulates a child into sharing material, reporting the shape and seriousness of a conversation to the right authority rather than reading every message, and blocking hostile contact before it reaches the target.
