Europol Reports 2,500 Arrests in Global Operation Targeting Online Child Sexual Abuse
Guardii Analysis
Europol coordinated a multinational operation across 60 countries between April and September 2024 that resulted in approximately 2,500 arrests and the identification of more than 1,600 child victims of online sexual abuse. The operation focused on producers and distributors of child sexual abuse material, members of online communities facilitating exploitation, and individuals involved in live-streaming abuse, with law enforcement executing searches, seizing devices, and dismantling networks operating on encrypted platforms and the dark web.
Detection at the point of first contact narrows the investigative window. Guardii's anti-grooming and anti-sextortion modules flag coercive patterns and escalating requests in real time as offenders initiate contact with children on mainstream messaging platforms, alerting the parent, school or safeguarding team while the conversation is underway rather than after abuse material has been created or shared. Early interception reduces the population at risk and generates actionable intelligence for coordinated enforcement, identifying threat behavior before it progresses to production or distribution of illegal content.
