Europol dismantles international sextortion network targeting thousands of minors

European law enforcement, coordinated by Europol and involving agencies from twelve countries, has dismantled an organised sextortion network that targeted more than eight thousand children across Europe, North America and Asia. The operation resulted in thirty-seven arrests and the seizure of servers hosting coerced imagery. Offenders posed as peers on Instagram, Snapchat and gaming platforms, manipulated victims into sharing intimate images, then extorted further material or payment under threat of distribution. Europol reports that the average time between initial contact and the first extortion demand was less than seventy-two hours, and that many victims were simultaneously targeted by multiple accounts operated by the same group.

Sextortion moves at speed, and every hour of undetected escalation compounds the harm.
