58 arrests in global effort to dismantle West African organized crime groups

INTERPOL coordinated Operation Jackal IV, a seven-month international effort involving 23 countries across six continents that resulted in 58 arrests targeting West African organized crime groups including Black Axe. The operation focused on disrupting money laundering networks behind cyber-enabled financial fraud and identified an emerging trend of these groups using sextortion to target minors as young as 14, with offenders typically contacting victims via social media, building trust and coercing them into sharing explicit images before threatening distribution unless a ransom is paid.

Preventing financial sextortion before the initial contact requires real-time detection of the approach and the escalation pattern.
