Webinar addresses Preventing Online Sexual Exploitation of Children Teens
Guardii Analysis
A webinar presented by the Online Child Exploitation Prevention Initiative addressed emerging online threats to children, including financially motivated sextortion, sadistic online exploitation and the use of AI to create deepfake images. The presentation cited National Center for Missing and Exploited Children data showing that reported cases of financially motivated sextortion rose from 10,731 in 2022 to 50,000 in 2025, with the incidents leading to more than 36 suicides of teenage boys in the United States. The webinar noted that offenders are using nudify apps to create realistic sexualized deepfake images of children, and that the problem has serious lethality, with many survivors suffering severe emotional and psychological trauma. The initiative has released guidance for school-based professionals and school leaders, materials on helping youth navigate online sextortion and exploitation, and ten best practices for prevention programs.
The documented surge from 10,731 to 50,000 reported cases in three years and the connection to more than 36 suicides among American teenage boys underscores the operational imperative for detection before the first explicit image is sent. Guardii anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM modules detect the initial grooming contact, the request for an explicit image, the threat to distribute material already obtained, and the escalating coercion or financial demand as each message is exchanged across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms where offenders establish contact with minors. By flagging hostile accounts and surfacing a child in crisis to a parent, school or professional before compliance or psychological harm occurs, targeted detection addresses the underlying risk the statistics document without requiring blanket restrictions on access. Guardii, a world-leading AI online-safety platform, also detects the misuse of AI to create deepfake or synthetic child sexual abuse material, reporting the shape and seriousness of the threat rather than handing anyone a feed of what was said, and enabling rapid escalation to the right authority in an emergency.
