Victorian schools trial new bullying prevention framework amid rising cyberbullying reports

Guardii Analysis

Victoria's Department of Education launched a trial of an updated bullying prevention framework in 50 schools, responding to data showing a 34 per cent increase in reported cyberbullying incidents over the past two years. The trial framework emphasises whole-school culture change, bystander intervention training for students, and partnerships with parents to monitor online activity, with the department planning statewide rollout in 2025 if pilot results are positive.

Culture change and bystander education build long-term resilience, yet both depend on a child or peer recognising harm and choosing to report it—a threshold many targets of sustained abuse never reach, whether from shame, fear of retaliation, or simple exhaustion. A detection layer that does not wait for a report cuts through that silence: when an AI module identifies coercive language, sexually explicit requests or a spike in hostile messages within a child's inbox, it can surface the threat to a parent or school counsellor in real time, independent of whether the child or a bystander speaks up. As a Meta Business Partner and Startmate-backed platform, Guardii deploys precisely this capability across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other services, flagging the shape and seriousness of a conversation—sustained targeting, escalation, sexual coercion—without requiring anyone to read the content itself, ensuring that intervention precedes crisis rather than following disclosure.
