Victoria launches pilot linking schools to eSafety Commissioner cyberbullying intake system
Guardii Analysis
The Victorian Department of Education has launched a six-month pilot program linking 50 government schools directly to the eSafety Commissioner's cyberbullying complaints intake system, allowing principals to lodge formal reports on behalf of students and parents. The initiative, announced as part of the state's response to the federal Anti-Bullying Rapid Review, aims to reduce the reporting burden on families and accelerate takedown requests for harmful content on social media platforms. Participating schools will track incident volume, response times and outcomes to evaluate whether a state-wide rollout is warranted, with data collection commencing in October 2026.
Streamlined reporting after harm has occurred does not address the prevention gap. Guardii blocks or flags hostile contact before it reaches the child, detecting cyberbullying patterns in real time across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and Roblox and surfacing acute distress to the parent or school counsellor who can intervene immediately. Backed by Startmate and operating as a Meta Business Partner, the platform monitors for sustained targeting, escalation and coercion at the point of contact, enabling schools to respond during the window when harm can still be prevented rather than relying on post-incident complaints and content takedown after a child has already been subjected to abuse.
