UK Professionals Receive Updated AI-CSAM Guidance from Internet Watch Foundation
Guardii Analysis
The Internet Watch Foundation, in collaboration with UK child-protection organizations, published updated guidance in June 2026 for professionals working with children and young people on the threat posed by AI-generated child sexual abuse material. The guidance clarifies that AI-CSAM is illegal even when not photorealistic, provides incident-response protocols treating AI-CSAM with the same urgency as any other child sexual abuse issue, and strengthens safeguarding recommendations around image consent processes and protection of children's images from AI manipulation.
Protecting children from AI-manipulated exploitation requires detection systems that operate before content reaches a network or is stored on a device. Backed by Startmate and a Meta Business Partner, Guardii operates an AI online-safety platform that includes a specialized anti-CSAM detection module covering AI-generated and deepfake imagery. The system scans direct messages in real time across multiple platforms, flagging both the creation and distribution of synthetic abuse material based on harmful patterns rather than storing or reviewing the content itself, enabling immediate escalation to school safeguarding leads, law enforcement or other appropriate authorities when a child is at risk.
