UK National Crime Agency reports 25% rise in child sexual abuse image reports

Guardii Analysis

The UK National Crime Agency has released statistics indicating a twenty-five percent increase in reports of child sexual abuse imagery compared to the previous year, with a notable rise in AI-generated and digitally manipulated material identified by the Internet Watch Foundation. The agency notes that the growth reflects both heightened offender activity and enhanced detection by technology companies, and it has emphasised the need for continued investment in proactive scanning and cross-platform referral systems to identify and remove illegal content before widespread distribution occurs.

Increased reporting confirms that more abuse material is being created and shared, but it also exposes the gap between detection and prevention: flagging an image after it has been distributed addresses evidence but not the child who was harmed or the conversation that led to its creation. Real-time detection of solicitation and coercion in direct messaging allows intervention before an image is produced or traded. Guardii's anti-CSAM and anti-sextortion modules monitor conversation patterns across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and Roblox, identifying image-sharing pressure, trading behaviours and escalation tactics as they occur and escalating high-risk exchanges to the appropriate authority. The platform reports the shape and seriousness of a conversation rather than the content itself, closing the window between first contact and harm.
