UK Court Sentences Man to 18 Years for Sextortion Campaign Targeting 70 Children Across Multiple Platforms
Guardii Analysis
A UK court has sentenced David Wilson to 18 years imprisonment for orchestrating a cross-platform sextortion campaign that targeted more than 70 children aged 11 to 16 across Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp. The offender used multiple fake profiles to pose as a peer, initiate contact through Instagram, move conversations to Snapchat where messages automatically delete, and then coerce victims into sending explicit images under threats of exposure. The sentencing remarks noted that the offender exploited the ephemeral messaging features and lack of cross-platform detection to sustain the campaign over 14 months before a victim disclosed to a school counsellor.
Sextortion that moves across platforms exploits the detection boundary: a predator begins contact where friction is low, then shifts to an environment where visibility is weaker. Guardii's cross-platform detection architecture is built to address exactly that displacement, tracking coercive patterns in direct messages across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other services in real time. By identifying escalation, requests for images and threats as they develop—regardless of which platform hosts the conversation—the system surfaces a child in acute danger to a parent, school or authority before harm occurs, closing the operational gap that allowed Wilson's campaign to continue undetected for more than a year.
