Spain's National Police announced the arrest of 29 individuals across seven provinces in a coordinated operation dismantling an organised network that used AI deepfake tools to create non-consensual intimate images of women and minors, then extorted victims by threatening wider distribution unless payment was made. Investigators report the group targeted at least 150 victims, many of them school-age girls, by harvesting photographs from social media and processing them through commercially available nudification applications before initiating contact via messaging platforms.
Sextortion campaigns depend on the offender's ability to deliver a credible threat directly to the victim without early interdiction.
