South Australian schools trial real-time cyberbullying alert system in state pilot

Fifteen South Australian public schools are participating in a six-month trial of a real-time monitoring system designed to alert staff when cyberbullying keywords or phrases are detected on school-managed devices and networks, part of a broader state response to recommendations from the National Framework review. The trial, overseen by the SA Department for Education, will assess technical feasibility, privacy safeguards and staff workload implications, with early findings expected in March 2027, though the system is limited to school infrastructure and does not extend to students' personal devices or private messaging platforms.

Keyword detection on managed devices addresses only the fraction of abuse that occurs on school networks during school hours.
