South Australian schools adopt new cyberbullying response protocols under state education policy

South Australia's Department for Education has introduced new mandatory cyberbullying response protocols for all state schools, requiring staff to document online harassment incidents and establish support plans for affected students within 48 hours of a report. The policy, effective from the start of Term 3, aligns SA's approach with the National Safe Schools Framework and the federal government's Anti-Bullying Rapid Review, and includes provisions for escalation to police where threats involve criminal conduct.

Mandatory response protocols address harm once it has been reported and documented, but the 48-hour window begins only after a student, parent or teacher raises the alarm, often days or weeks into a pattern of abuse. Technology that detects sustained targeting and escalation as it occurs in direct-message conversations can shorten that window to zero: Guardii blocks or flags hostile contact before it reaches the target, surfaces a child in crisis to a parent or school, and enables rapid escalation to the right authority in an emergency, intercepting the harmful patterns the SA protocols are designed to address before a formal report is required.
