South Australia launches Let's Stop Bullying campaign refresh with focus on social media harms
Guardii Analysis
South Australia has relaunched its Let's Stop Bullying campaign with updated resources addressing cyberbullying and social media harms, including guides for parents on monitoring children's online activity and recognising signs of digital abuse. The campaign, coordinated by the Department for Education, emphasises whole-community involvement and aligns with the National Framework principles. It includes classroom modules, parent webinars and partnerships with community organisations to build digital resilience, with Education Minister Blair Boyer highlighting the need for proactive responses to evolving online risks.
Campaigns that equip parents to recognise abuse symptoms improve awareness, but the structural challenge is detecting harm in encrypted or ephemeral messaging before a child exhibits distress. AI-driven detection that analyses conversation patterns for coercion, escalation and sustained targeting across Snapchat, Instagram, Discord and other platforms intercepts cyberbullying at its source, flagging the seriousness of a conversation without exposing its content. This approach surfaces a child at acute risk to the parent or school immediately, enabling the intervention community campaigns seek to enable and addressing the harm proactively rather than through symptom recognition after the fact.
