Sextortion suspects used fake images to frame victims as child predators, DOJ says

Guardii Analysis

Two Dominican nationals were arrested on August 19, 2026, and extradited to Puerto Rico on September 30, 2026, on charges of conspiracy to cyberstalk and send interstate threats. The defendants used Facebook, WhatsApp and other platforms to trick victims into sharing explicit images which were secretly recorded, then distributed to victims' online networks even after victims emptied bank accounts to pay demanded amounts. They face a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Platform-agnostic detection surfaces coercion and payment demands the moment they emerge. As a Meta Business Partner, Guardii deploys real-time sextortion and grooming detection across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat and other messaging environments, identifying the combination of recorded imagery, escalating threats and financial demands that distinguish sextortion from other harms, blocking hostile contact before it reaches the target and surfacing a child in acute distress to a parent or professional before money is transferred or self-harm occurs.
