Queensland schools trial AI monitoring tools under national anti-bullying framework pilot

The Queensland Department of Education has commenced a six-month pilot programme deploying AI-based monitoring tools in 15 secondary schools as part of its response to the national Anti-Bullying Rapid Review. The trial, announced in partnership with the Let's Stop Bullying campaign, will evaluate automated detection of bullying language on school-managed email and learning-management platforms, with results expected to inform statewide policy from mid-2027. The pilot excludes personal social-media accounts and focuses on supervised digital environments, with parental consent required for participating students.

School-managed environments represent a fraction of the digital contact space where cyberbullying and exploitation occur, with most high-risk conversations taking place in private direct messages on personal accounts outside supervised infrastructure.
