Queensland schools trial AI monitoring tools as part of anti-bullying strategy overhaul

Guardii Analysis

Queensland's Department of Education has launched a six-month trial of AI-powered monitoring tools across twelve state secondary schools as part of an overhaul of its anti-bullying strategy, following consultation with the federal Anti-Bullying Rapid Review panel. The trial will assess whether automated detection of harmful communication patterns can supplement existing reporting mechanisms, with participating schools receiving dedicated implementation support and data-protection oversight from the Queensland Privacy Commissioner.

Detection architectures that report the shape and seriousness of a conversation rather than delivering a feed of message content address the privacy concerns that Queensland's Commissioner oversight is designed to manage. As a world-leading AI online-safety platform, Guardii identifies harmful patterns such as sustained targeting, escalation and coercion without requiring schools or authorities to read every message, blocking hostile contact before it reaches the target and escalating only those conversations that meet defined thresholds for intervention.
