Queensland announces cyberbullying rapid-response teams for state schools

Queensland Education Minister Grace Grace has announced the creation of regional cyberbullying rapid-response teams to support state schools dealing with serious online harassment incidents. The teams, comprising psychologists, digital-safety specialists and legal advisors, will be deployed within 24 hours of a school requesting assistance with cases involving threats, sustained targeting or cross-platform abuse. The initiative forms part of Queensland's response to the federal Anti-Bullying Rapid Review and will operate alongside existing student wellbeing services, with rollout commencing in October 2024 across the state's ten education regions.

A 24-hour response addresses harm after escalation has triggered a formal request, but cyberbullying unfolds in minutes, not days, and the most dangerous exchanges often occur in private direct messages where no teacher or counsellor has visibility.
