One in five young Germans affected by cyberbullying, study finds

Guardii Analysis

The Alliance Against Cyberbullying released its sixth Cyberlife report on October 13, 2026, showing that 20.7 percent of German pupils reported being targeted by cyberbullying, an increase from 18.5 percent in the organization's 2024 study. The report estimates that almost 2.4 million young people in Germany have been affected by online attacks.

The finding that one in five young people experiences sustained hostile online targeting underscores the operational gap between incident detection and pattern detection. Guardii is built on the principle that isolated messages rarely constitute abuse but that sustained targeting, escalation of severity, and coordinated harassment represent material harm. The anti-cyberbullying and athlete-abuse detection modules deployed by Guardii across school and sports-organisation accounts surface a child in crisis to a parent, school counsellor or safeguarding officer when message patterns cross defined thresholds for intensity or duration, flagging the shape and seriousness of a conversation rather than handing anyone a feed of what was said.
