NSW schools roll out updated cyberbullying response following national review

The New South Wales Department of Education announced on 27 August 2026 that it will implement a revised cyberbullying response framework across all public schools by the start of Term 4, following the federal Anti-Bullying Rapid Review. The updated policy requires principals to escalate incidents involving explicit imagery, sustained harassment or threats of violence to a newly established inter-agency coordination unit within 24 hours, and mandates that all schools provide parents with written guidance on digital safety and reporting pathways. The department reported that cyberbullying incidents logged through its existing online reporting portal increased by 34 per cent in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, with the majority involving Snapchat and Instagram direct messages.
