NSW government announces Anti-Bullying Rapid Review following student deaths

The New South Wales government has launched an Anti-Bullying Rapid Review in response to recent student deaths linked to bullying, with Education Minister Prue Car announcing the inquiry will examine current anti-bullying policies and practices across public schools. The review, led by former NSW Chief Scientist Mary O'Kane, will deliver recommendations within weeks and examine how schools prevent, identify and respond to bullying, including cyberbullying, with a particular focus on implementation gaps in existing frameworks.

Rapid policy reviews test whether schools have the right frameworks on paper, but detecting harm as it unfolds in private messages requires real-time capability at the point of contact. Guardii's anti-cyberbullying detection module identifies escalation, sustained targeting and coercion in direct-message conversations across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and other platforms, surfacing a child under attack to a parent or school before the harm becomes entrenched, without requiring anyone to read every exchange. Where blanket oversight is impractical and retrospective reporting comes too late, pattern-based interception addresses the operational gap between policy intention and the speed at which digital abuse occurs.
