NSW adds cyberbullying module to Let's Stop Bullying campaign amid Discord grooming concerns

Guardii Analysis

New South Wales has expanded the Let's Stop Bullying campaign with a dedicated cyberbullying and online-safety module that warns students about the overlap between cyberbullying and grooming behavior, particularly on Discord where predators often pose as peers before escalating to sexual coercion. The NSW Department of Education reported that 18 incidents in the past six months involved contact that began as peer harassment but shifted to adult-initiated grooming, prompting the update to align the campaign with the National Framework's emphasis on platform-specific risks.

Guardii's anti-grooming and anti-cyberbullying detection modules work in tandem to distinguish between peer conflict and adult predation, identifying coercion, age-inappropriate contact and escalation patterns in Discord, Snapchat, Instagram and Roblox direct messages as they occur. Where educational campaigns inform students of risks, AI-driven pattern recognition intercepts the harm itself, blocking hostile or predatory contact before it reaches the child and alerting a parent, school or authority when a conversation signals sustained targeting or grooming tactics. The system reports threat patterns rather than message content, enabling intervention at the point of contact without requiring the child to recognize or report the risk on their own.
