Nigerian Brothers Sentenced to 17.5 Years Each in International Sextortion Scheme That Led to Michigan Teen's Death

Guardii Analysis

Samuel Ogoshi, 24, and Samson Ogoshi, 21, both of Lagos, Nigeria, were each sentenced to 210 months in prison by a U.S. federal court for conspiracy to sexually exploit minors in a sextortion scheme that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay of Michigan on March 25, 2022. Operating from Nigeria, the brothers sexually exploited and extorted more than 100 victims, including at least 11 identified minors, using social media platforms and messaging apps to coerce victims into sharing explicit images and then threatening to distribute the material unless payments were made. A separate indictment unsealed in the same announcement charged five U.S.-based defendants with conspiring to commit money laundering in support of the scheme.

This case represents a documented operational pattern: initial contact on a gaming or social platform, rapid migration to a secondary messaging channel, image solicitation under false pretences, and immediate escalation to financial extortion reinforced by distribution threats. Guardii's anti-sextortion detection module is architected to interdict this progression at the point of first harm. By analysing escalation velocity, coercive language, and demand structures within direct-message threads in real time, the system flags the sextortion attempt and blocks hostile contact before imagery is shared or a threat is issued, surfacing the child in crisis to the parent or authority and enabling emergency-speed escalation when a credible suicide or self-harm signal is detected.
