New Research Shows AI-Generated CSAM Reports Surge 1,000% in Two Years
Guardii Analysis
The Internet Watch Foundation published research in October 2024 documenting a 1,000 percent increase in reports of AI-generated child sexual abuse material over the preceding two years, with analysts identifying realistic deepfake imagery created using generative AI tools and circulated on mainstream platforms and encrypted messaging services. The report found that 3,000 AI-generated images were assessed in a single month, with 98 percent depicting real children whose likenesses had been manipulated.
Guardii's anti-CSAM detection module specifically addresses AI-generated and deepfake child sexual abuse material, identifying solicitation and coercive patterns in direct-message conversations in real time across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms. The system flags hostile contact before it reaches the target, surfaces the threat to a parent, school or professional, and enables rapid escalation to the right authority, detecting harmful patterns rather than relying on image-matching databases that cannot account for novel synthetic content.
