New App Store Rules Target AI Deepfakes and Nudify Apps
Guardii Analysis
On October 16, 2026, Apple expanded its App Store moderation rules to explicitly cover AI-generated nonconsensual intimate imagery, requiring app developers to proactively prevent and remove AI-generated deepfakes from their platforms. While sexually explicit content was already banned, the updated guidelines name AI content creation apps directly and impose removal consequences for apps with offending content if developers fail to act. The policy update targets applications including chatbots that have been implicated in generating sexually explicit deepfake images.
Platform-level enforcement policies set minimum standards, but they depend on detection at scale and consistent application across millions of apps and billions of messages. Guardii offers the operational architecture that complements those policies: it monitors the pattern of conversation rather than relying on users or moderators to report completed harms. For a child targeted by AI-generated abuse material, the anti-CSAM and anti-sextortion filters flag the escalation in real time across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other messaging environments, reporting the threat shape to the adult with duty of care and blocking hostile contact before it reaches the child. This is not reactive content review; it is behaviour-pattern detection designed to prevent the conversation from advancing to distribution or coercion.
