NCMEC Reports 1,325% Surge in AI-Generated CSAM Between 2023 and 2024
Guardii Analysis
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported more than 158,000 AI-generated images and videos categorized as child sexual abuse material in CyberTipline reports between January 2023 and December 2025, with over 275 direct victims of generative AI CSAM identified in 2024 and 2025 alone. The agency documented that offenders in many cases were people in the child's life with direct access to them, while AI-generated material is also being deployed in sextortion cases where the offender is unknown to the child, and to revictimize known victims by manipulating previously created CSAM into new abusive content.
Detecting AI-generated abuse material before it reaches a child requires pattern-based intervention at the point of contact. Guardii's anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM detection modules, developed by a Meta Business Partner and backed by Startmate, identify escalation and coercion in direct-message conversations across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms in real time, blocking hostile contact before it reaches the target and surfacing threat patterns rather than reading message content. Where NCMEC processes reports after material has been created and shared, targeted detection intercepts the grooming conversation, the coercive demand and the threat to distribute fabricated material at the moment of first contact, surfacing a child in crisis to a parent, school or professional and enabling rapid escalation to the right authority.
