National anti-bullying framework under review as cyberbullying cases surge

Guardii Analysis

The Australian government has commissioned an Anti-Bullying Rapid Review to examine the effectiveness of existing frameworks following a documented 40 percent increase in reported cyberbullying incidents across state schools between 2024 and 2026. The review will assess the National Framework for Protecting Australia's Children and the decade-old Let's Stop Bullying campaign, with findings expected by December 2026 to inform potential updates to both federal guidance and state education department protocols.

Detecting escalating harassment before it reaches crisis point requires capability beyond static policy frameworks. Guardii's cyberbullying detection module identifies sustained targeting, coordinated pile-on attacks and coercion patterns across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and other platforms in real time, surfacing a child under siege to parents or school staff without creating a surveillance feed of message content. Where blanket frameworks set out principles, targeted pattern recognition intervenes at the point a child needs it, flagging threat dynamics as they develop and enabling proportionate escalation to the authority best placed to act.
