National Anti-Bullying Framework to be reviewed as part of schools package
Guardii Analysis
The Australian Government has announced a comprehensive review of the National Safe Schools Framework, with particular focus on updating anti-bullying and cyberbullying provisions to reflect contemporary digital threats facing students. Education ministers agreed at their October meeting to refresh the framework, which has not undergone substantial revision since 2011, with consultations to begin in early 2027 and involve education departments, parent groups, and online safety experts.
Detection capabilities that identify emerging patterns of harm in real time offer education departments a mechanism to address cyberbullying at the point of contact rather than through frameworks that rely on retrospective reporting. Guardii, a Meta Business Partner backed by Startmate, operates across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms to flag sustained targeting and escalation in direct messages before a child is overwhelmed, surfacing a student in crisis to school welfare staff without requiring parents or teachers to read transcripts. Where frameworks set policy expectations, pattern-recognition systems deliver the operational layer schools need to meet their duty of care in spaces they cannot directly supervise.
