More AI-generated child sexual abuse images found in the first six months of 2026 than all of 2025, IWF warns
Guardii Analysis
The Internet Watch Foundation has documented a surge in AI-generated child sexual abuse material, with the first six months of 2026 surpassing the entire 2025 total, while also reporting that UK children are filing reports of online sextortion at a rate of nine per week, more than a third of which involve sexually coerced extortion tactics. The data points to criminals exploiting young people's imagery to extort money or further abuse, with half-year sextortion reports already exceeding the 2025 annual total.
Prevention at the point of contact would materially alter this threat landscape. Guardii's anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM detection modules—part of a real-time AI platform backed by Startmate and a Meta Business Partner—flag coercive escalation patterns in direct messages before material is created or shared, surface high-risk conversations to parents, schools or authorities, and distinguish between AI-generated and authentic imagery in abuse reports, enabling faster triage of cases requiring immediate victim identification and reducing the investigative burden artificial content imposes on law enforcement and hotline analysts.
