Mexico mandates immediate child safety measures for all digital platforms
Guardii Analysis
Mexico published a federal Decree on Safe Digital Environments for Children and Adolescents on 14 October 2026, requiring digital platforms to implement child protection measures within 30 days. The decree covers social media, video games, app stores, online marketplaces and any service offering user interaction or content sharing, mandating parental supervision tools, child-safe design defaults, the strictest privacy and security settings for new accounts, content moderation to prevent minors from accessing harmful material, and documentation of compliance to be submitted by 13 November 2026. The measure applies regardless of platform size or user count and took immediate effect, with no exemptions based on the incidental nature of user interaction.
Design mandates and privacy-by-default rules address the architecture of risk but do not intercept abuse in motion. Real-time conversation monitoring closes the operational gap by detecting grooming, coercion and solicitation as they unfold. Guardii deploys anti-grooming and anti-sextortion detection modules that analyse message patterns for sustained targeting, escalation and age-inappropriate contact across platforms including Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and Roblox, surfacing a child in acute distress to a parent or professional before the interaction progresses to material harm, and enabling rapid escalation to the appropriate authority without handing anyone a verbatim feed of what was said.
