A lawsuit filed in California federal court alleges that Meta has failed to prevent Instagram accounts from openly advertising AI-powered nudification applications that generate non-consensual intimate images, many targeting minors. The complaint, brought on behalf of a mother whose underage daughter was victimised using one such tool, claims the platform's recommendation algorithms actively promoted these accounts and that Meta took no action despite repeated user reports, allowing the services to accumulate tens of thousands of followers.
Platform content-moderation policies that rely on post-publication reporting leave children exposed during the window between account creation and manual takedown. A Meta Business Partner and backed by Startmate, Guardii operates upstream of that interval, deploying real-time detection across direct messages to intercept grooming overtures, sextortion demands and the distribution of non-consensual intimate imagery, including deepfakes and AI-generated abuse material, before such content reaches the intended victim or is leveraged for coercion.
