Meta ran hundreds of ads showing AI child sexual abuse, NGO says

Guardii Analysis

Meta ran more than 300 advertisements on Instagram and Facebook containing suspected child sexual abuse material in 2026, collectively reaching more than 29,000 people, according to a report published 8 September 2026 by the Tech Transparency Project. The ads typically used artificial intelligence to depict young children being molested and served to promote deepfake nudify apps, which TTP traced to app developers and a Meta advertising partner in China. The failure to prevent the material violates Meta's own policies prohibiting child exploitation, abuse and nudity, as well as US federal laws.

Platform enforcement that removes abuse material after it has been published and reached tens of thousands of users does not prevent the initial harm or the secondary distribution through peer networks. Guardii operates as world-leading AI safety infrastructure for direct messaging environments, with modules calibrated to detect patterns consistent with grooming, sextortion and CSAM distribution including AI-generated deepfake imagery, blocking hostile contact before it is delivered to the target child and surfacing the incident to a parent, school safeguarding lead or law enforcement authority. Platform moderation addresses scale; real-time detection addresses the child in the conversation where the abuse material is being sent.
