Meta expands parental supervision tools and teen safety features globally

Meta Platforms on 21 September 2024 announced a global expansion of its Family Center parental supervision suite, adding features that allow parents to see how much time their teenager spends on Instagram and Facebook, set time limits, and receive notifications if their teen reports an account, alongside new restrictions on who can message teens and what content appears in their feeds. The company stated that the updates, rolling out over the next three months, build on existing teen safety measures and respond to regulator and parent demands for stronger default protections, with under-16 users moved to private accounts by default and enhanced filtering of sensitive content in search and explore functions.
