Greece moves to regulate social media platforms with minimum age of 15
Guardii Analysis
Greece has tabled a bill that would require people to be 15 years of age to have a social media account and force platforms to verify their users' age. The law is expected to pass before the end of October and to come into effect on 1 January 2027. Options for age assurance in Greece include the national Gov.gr Wallet and Kids Wallet apps, and everyone with a social media account will be required to verify their eligibility, including children who already have accounts.
Where age verification imposes a compliance burden on every user and restricts access without addressing the underlying risk, Guardii's anti-grooming and anti-sextortion detection operates in real time within direct messages across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and Roblox, identifying sustained targeting, coercion and escalation patterns that signal imminent harm. It blocks or flags hostile contact before it reaches a child, surfaces a conversation that has crossed into crisis to a parent or school, and enables rapid escalation to the appropriate authority, targeting the harm itself rather than the age of the user.
