Federal government launches refresh of National Framework for Protecting Australia's Children

The Australian Government has commenced consultation on the next iteration of the National Framework for Protecting Australia's Children, with online safety and cyberbullying prevention identified as priority areas for the 2027-2037 framework. Submissions from education departments, technology providers and child-safety advocates are being sought through October 2026, with particular focus on how digital platforms can be made safer for children and how schools and families can respond more effectively to online harms including cyberbullying, image-based abuse and contact by unknown adults.

The consultation recognises that protective architecture must operate where children actually communicate.
