The Australian Federal Government has launched an Anti-Bullying Rapid Review in response to the death of 12-year-old Charlotte O'Brien, who took her own life after experiencing severe bullying including cyberbullying. Education Minister Jason Clare announced the review will examine current anti-bullying frameworks and policies across all states and territories, with findings due within months. The review follows sustained pressure from Charlotte's family and community advocates, and will assess the effectiveness of existing measures including the National Framework and the Let's Stop Bullying campaign.
Rather than commissioning yet another review of frameworks that have failed to prevent tragedies like Charlotte's death, education authorities should deploy detection technology capable of intercepting abuse before it escalates.
