FBI warns of explosion in AI-generated child sexual abuse imagery

Guardii Analysis

The FBI has issued a public alert concerning a sharp rise in AI-generated child sexual abuse material, noting that offenders are using generative AI tools to create increasingly realistic images and to morph existing photographs of real children into explicit content. Law enforcement officials report that the technology lowers the barrier to producing such material, that the images are being traded in online forums, and that some are used to groom or extort minors by making them believe the fabricated images are genuine. The bureau has called on tech companies and the public to report suspected AI-generated CSAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

AI-generated and deepfake abuse material circulates in the same networks and serves the same coercive function as photographs, and detection must now account for synthetic as well as photographic imagery. Guardii's CSAM detection module is built to recognise both: it scans for known image hashes and uses machine learning to identify novel AI-generated content as it appears in a child's messages or shared files, flagging the material in real time and enabling immediate escalation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or the appropriate law-enforcement authority. Because the system operates across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other platforms, it intercepts distribution and sextortion attempts at the point of contact, whether the image is real or rendered.
