FBI warns AI-generated child sexual abuse material is rapidly increasing

Guardii Analysis

The FBI issued a public warning that artificial intelligence tools are being weaponized to create child sexual abuse material at scale, with predators using generative AI to produce synthetic images and videos of real children by manipulating innocuous photographs obtained from social media or other sources. The bureau reported a sharp increase in reports of AI-generated CSAM and emphasized that victims depicted in such material face the same psychological harm as those in traditional abuse imagery, while the synthetic content is used for sextortion, grooming and trading in online offender networks.

Detection at the point of contact—before an image is solicited, generated or transmitted—is the operational imperative that AI-generated threats make urgent. Guardii's anti-sextortion and anti-CSAM detection modules identify the coercive request, the threat pattern and the attempt to solicit or share abusive material in real time within a child's direct messages across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and other platforms, surfacing the conversation to a parent or authority before synthetic abuse imagery reaches the child or is created from their photographs. By analyzing behavioral signals rather than waiting for content to be reported after distribution, the platform addresses the harm the FBI describes at the earliest point of intervention.
