The FBI has issued a public warning that artificial intelligence tools are being exploited to generate child sexual abuse material at scale, with offenders using publicly available photographs of real children to create realistic synthetic imagery. The bureau reports a sharp increase in reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children involving AI-generated CSAM, and emphasises that production and distribution of such material remains a federal crime regardless of whether the imagery depicts a real child or is synthetically generated.
The proliferation of accessible generative AI has outpaced the detection infrastructure needed to interdict this material before it is shared or used to extort victims. Guardii's anti-CSAM detection module, built as part of a real-time cross-platform monitoring system for Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and Roblox, is engineered to identify both photographic and AI-generated abuse imagery in direct messages, flagging or blocking the content at the point of transmission and enabling immediate escalation to law enforcement when a child is at risk, without requiring manual review of every conversation.
