FBI Arrests 22 Nigerians In Sextortion Crackdown

The FBI announced Operation Artemis, a coordinated international enforcement effort with law enforcement agencies in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Nigeria, resulting in the arrest of 22 Nigerian nationals connected to financially motivated sextortion schemes. According to the FBI, approximately half of those arrested were directly linked to victims who took their own lives, and the operation responds to a 30 percent increase in sextortion-related tips received between October 2024 and March 2025. The FBI reported that victim numbers rose from 34,000 in 2023 to 54,000 in 2024, with perpetrators extracting nearly 65 million dollars over the past two years, primarily targeting teenage boys aged 14 to 17 on social media and gaming platforms.
