EU's Digital Services Act forces major platforms to strengthen child safety measures

Guardii Analysis

The European Commission has issued formal guidance under the Digital Services Act requiring very large online platforms to implement enhanced child protection measures by December 2026. The directive mandates risk assessments for minor users, transparency in content moderation affecting children, and deployment of proactive detection systems for grooming and child sexual abuse material. Meta, TikTok, and Snapchat are among the platforms subject to the new requirements, with non-compliance carrying fines of up to six percent of global revenue.

Rather than relying on post-incident reporting or account restrictions that push activity into darker corners, real-time pattern detection intercepts harm at the point of contact. Guardii's AI platform identifies escalation signals, coercion tactics, and predatory conversation structures across Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Roblox and other services, flagging hostile contact before it reaches a child and surfacing acute risk to parents or safeguarding professionals without creating a surveillance feed of message content. As a Meta Business Partner operating across multiple platforms, Guardii provides the proactive detection infrastructure that satisfies regulatory expectations while preserving legitimate use.
